Rosenthal - Tütenvase Vase 18 cm

Tapio Wirkkala is considered the great patriarch of Finnish creative power and creativity. The vase shaped like a bag, which has become a cult element, is now imitated and reproduces the typical shape of a disposable paper bag. Entirely made of white porcelain, cameo, lava, mint and coral.  The elements of the Tutenvase collection have a particular workmanship that makes them look wrinkled. An elegant gift idea guaranteed by a great tradition.

Tapio Wirkkala

The range of his projects and productions is immense, ranging in different areas such as the design of glass and stoneware objects, jewelry design and furniture for mass production, as well as individual sculptures and other projects for different media. After the war Wirkkala worked in an advertising agency and participated in design competitions such as the one for the company Iittala, for which he began working from 1946. This collaboration will last for the next 30 years. In Italy Wirkkala frequented Gio Ponti, Luigi Baldessari and Paolo Venini; from 1966 to 1972 he collaborated with Vetreria Venini in Murano and from 1957 he created for Rosenthal the lines Century, Composition, Kurve, Polygon, Taille and Variation. Wirkkala’s works are exhibited at the MoMA in New York and the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris. In 2003, a foundation dedicated to Tapio Wirkkala and his wife Rut Bryk was created to maintain the collection and promote Finnish design.

In 1950 his son Philip took on responsibility of the company, which in 1961 inaugurated Rosenthal Studio-Line, a brand related to projects and collaborations with celebrated artists, architects, and designers.
