Selma Calheira’s line of Seixo disco consists of elegant and minimalistic ceramic vases.
Gardeco - Seixo disco vase
Seixo disco are handmade by experienced craftsmen at the ceramics studio Cores da Terra in Brazil. The vases are not waterproof and should therefore not be used with water or any other liquid. Small size and colour differences may occur as a natural result of the artisanal manufacturing method.
Selma Calheira
Selma Calheira is a Brazilian ceramist, based in Ibirataia, Bahia. In the fifties, at the age of 38, she founded her own ceramics studio and named it Cores da Terra - Colours of the Earth. Calheira chose this name as it reflects one of her core values, which is to make sustainable art. Another core value carried out by the artist is social responsibility as she trains the people of Bahia to work as professional ceramists at Cores da Terra. In this sense she actively helps the local community to flourish, providing jobs that allow families to live and work in their own cities. In 1996, Calheira was even awarded the prize Gente que Faz, for her work with economically disadvantaged people in one of the poorest areas in Brazil. Selma Calheira’s work is playful yet sophisticated. Her designs are made of organic resources such as clay and natural pigments.
Gardeco
The Belgian company was founded in 1999, with a mission to spread new ideas and perspectives through works of art with strong decorative power. All Gardeco sculptures are handcrafted by skilled artisans, thus conveying a strong sense of authenticity. Gardeco could be considered an art publisher that represents artists and craftsmen. It’s where new ideas in art meet high-end decoration. A handcrafted and low technology-based production brings on a variation in all shapes and colours, and thereby a strong sense of authenticity to all of our products. Each mould in which our products are made, is made by hand, as well as the final refining details of each product.
