The starting point of this project was a very precise production process: cast iron. It is one of the oldest methods of working ferrous metals. Cast iron performs well in case of compression: this is why it is used as a structural material in bridge construction and, on a scale closer to that of furniture, as a basis for heavy machinery.
It is precisely this use of cast iron that inspired BRUT, a collection that includes armchairs, sofas, benches and tables.
The name evokes something crude, unfinished.  A massive piece of heavy, inflexible iron. However BRUT also recalls the sweetness of sparkling wine, which tells us about refinement and elegance, qualities intrinsic to our project.

Konstantin Grcic

Konstantin Grcic defines function in human terms, combining formal strictness with remarkable mental acuity and humor. Each of his products is characterized by a careful research into the history of design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials. Known for pared-down pieces, Grcic is often called a minimalist but the designer himself prefers to speak of simplicity. The KGID studio is located in the center of Munich, in southern Germany, where 6 product designers and 1 personal assistant work. The studio specializes in several fields of design, ranging from furniture design to commissioned works such as architectural projects. The languages of communication are German, English, French, Italian and Spanish.
