Artemide - Huara table lamp app

In the beginning, man had only the light of the stars at his disposal: the sun and its reflection on the moon. For millennia humanity has accepted its inability to see in the dark and has adapted accordingly to the natural rhythm of the celestial spheres, of sunrise and sunset. For the first time, light has moved from the electrical realm to the field of electronics; but for some reason such a revolutionary passage has not permeated society; people look for sources and lamps in the appliance section, not in the electronics section.
Our project for Artemide concerns the integration of the first and last moment in the history of light: the celestial spheres with electronics; on the one hand we want the light to vary its intensity and direction as according to the phases rather than moving pieces of a mechanism, on the other hand we want to recognize the fact that the future of light is electronic, not electric. So, our design is a low-voltage dark sphere, mobile, intuitively activated by touch. Hence the name Huara, the word aymarà for star. Aymarà is the native population of the Atacama desert, the driest and darkest in the world. In other words, the place from which you can see more stars than the planet; no wonder that by 2020 70% of the planet’s astronomical observation capacity will be in the land of Aymarà. Huara is honoring humanity’s original light source and cutting-edge technology.

Elemental

ELEMENTAL is a Do Tank founded in 2001, led by the Pritzker Prize 2016 Alejandro Aravena and members Gonzalo Arteaga, Juan Cerda, Victor Oddó and Diego Torres. ELEMENTAL’s work is distinguished by its involvement in projects ranging from housing to public space, from objects to buildings, covering a wide range of interests. Their unbiased approach to a given application allows the office to enter fields that they have not explored before, generating an original contribution to people’s quality of life.
