Artemide - Boalum Table lamp Led

Born in 1970 by Livio Castiglioni and Gianfranco Frattini and defined by Domus "a serpent of infinite light", it immediately entered the history of Italian and world design.  Its translucent, reinforced, flexible PVC structure with resin terminals makes it virtually indestructible. The various elements can be connected in series up to a maximum of four pieces rollable as desired. It emits a diffused light and its timeless design makes it an evergreen suitable for all environments. Thanks to its flexibility, which makes it unique in shape, it can be placed on the ground or on a table, hung or twisted to invent new games of light every day. Produced from 1970 to 1983 and slightly modified in 1999, today it has been rebuilt replacing the classic bulbs with high efficiency LEDs. Boalum is part of many collections of design museums, from the Museum of Modern Art in Philadelphia to the Museum of Italian Design in Milan.

Livio Castiglioni

Livio Castiglioni, born in Milan in 1911 graduated in architecture in 1936 in Milan. He opens a studio together with the architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni, in which the brothers Pier Giacomo and Achille will also work. His interest has always been in lights, sound and audiovisual. From 1940 to 1956 he was consultant to Phonola and later to Brionvega (1960 to 1964). Together with his brothers he co-founded the ADI (Association for Industrial Design) in 1956 and became president (1959-1960).

Gianfranco Frattini

Gianfranco Frattini, born in 1926, graduated in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano in 1953. Frattini opens his professional studio in Milan, after working in the office of his teacher and mentor Gio Ponti. He collaborates with many companies in the field of furniture and lighting design, including Bernini, Arteluce, Acerbis, Fantoni, Luci, Knoll, Lema and Artemide (so, with Livio Castiglioni, he designs an absolute masterpiece, the historic floor lamp "Boalum"). In 1956 he co-founded the ADI - Association for Industrial Design - and was repeatedly involved in the management of the Milan Triennale. Throughout his career he practiced both industrial design and architecture, focusing mainly on interior design. Over the course of his life he won many awards and received many awards including the prestigious Compasso d'Oro.
