Elio Martinelli
Elio Martinelli was born on 19 November 1922 in Lucca and, after studying set design in Florence, he started his career in the family business. He soon discovered his passion for design and began designing lamps for his interior design projects. In 1950 he founded Martinelli Luce, starting the production of lamps in a small workshop. In 1966, thanks to the meeting with Giò Ponti, the company gains international visibility. In the 1960s, Martinelli experimented with the use of methacrylate for his creations. From the 1970s, he focused on new lighting technologies such as halogen lamps and in the 1980s developed a line of technical luminaires. In the following decade, the company expands internationally and specializes in commercial space lighting. Martinelli died in 2004, leaving a legacy in lighting design.
