Michael Anastassiades
Michael Anastassiades is a Cypriot-born, London-based designer. He founded his studio in 1994 to explore the contemporary notions of culture and aesthetic through a combination of product, furniture and enviromental design. Positioned between art and design, his work aims to provoke dialogue, participation and interection. He creates objects that are minimal, utilitarian and almost mundane but full of vitality that one might not expect. Anastassiades' works are exhibited in permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Crafts Council in London, the FRAC Centre in Orleans, France and the MAK in Vienna. Recent solo exhibitions include Time And Again at the Geymüllerschlössel / MAK in Vienna, To Be Perfectly Frank at Svenskt Tenn in Stockholm, Norfolk House music room at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. He has also designed products with various leading manufacturers including Flos, Puiforcat, Lobmeyr and Svenskt Tenn. In 2007 he founded Michael Anastassiades's company in order to produce his distinctive pieces, a collection of lighting, furniture, jewellry, and accessories table. The studio's philosophy is an ongoing pursuit for eclecticism, individuality and timeless quality in design.
Michael trained as a civil engineer at London’s Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine before taking a masters degree in industrial design at the Royal College of Art.
Flos, since 1962, thanks to its attractive collections of lamps and chandeliers has established itself among the leaders in the lighting sector. Flos tells a 100% Made in Italy story, the result of passion and trust, expansion and experimentation. The name "Flos" which means "Flower" in Latin, has as its origin a bright thought: the idea of giving birth to objects suitable for changing the way of living from a light bulb. The Italian Company has designed icons in the design world, specialized in the production of lights and lighting systems. Among all the Arco floor lamp, the Parentesi and Taraxacum suspension lamps (on the cover) by Achille Castiglioni, the famous Taccia lamp, the Aim, the Toio, collections of unmistakable elegance such as the String Light and other ultra-contemporary solutions, collaborating with the best known designers and architects on the national scene. Among them, Philippe Starck and Antonio Citterio are respectively the fathers of the D'E-light table lamp and the Kelvin LED desk lamp.
