Davide Groppi - Cathode 1 suspension lamp 3000K matt white TRIAC

A blown glass ampoule with a scientific aspect. The shape of Cathode evokes that of a bulb never born, steampunk atmospheres, situations in which the instruments were activated by the first forms of electricity. The classic bulb with no future becomes a luminaire with light diodes. What would the past have been like if the future had arrived sooner?

Omar Carraglia

Carraglia’s collaboration with Davide Groppi and his studio has produced a wide variety of designs that are nevertheless characterized by a constant gloss and modernity. Narrow and focused, with a clean line and defined geometric contrasts, the Mira 2012 lamp family by Carraglia shapes and defines the fulcrum of each space, while its floor lamps ABA 120 and ABA 45 table give a sense of novelty to a classic shape.
In addition, playfulness is another essential quality of many of Carraglia’s designs. This intrinsic sense of fun can be seen from the extravagant Imu, an outdoor lamp shaped like a birdhouse with bright colors, to the ironic Charles, which evokes the Darwinian theory tracing the evolution of the bulb in a single wall fixture, to the floor lamp Mister 2013 by Carraglia, a response and a complement to his suspension Miss 2006.
Pigreco, the new table lamp launched by Davide Groppi in 2019, reveals some intriguing new choices by Omar Carraglia. The most notable is the inclusion of a natural wood base, which gives warmth and earthiness to the lamp, which in turn is a partially frosted glass sphere. Pigreco evokes the soft and rounded shapes of the Cathode and Light My Fire models by Carraglia, but blends with its charm for precision in the perfection of a sphere.

Davide Groppi

Projects coming from the heart and brain, insights emerging from a certain way of being and thinking, where simplicity, lightness, emotion, invention and wonder are the key elements.

Since the late 1980s, starting from a very small workshop in Piacenza's historic center, Davide Groppi has been inventing and producing lamps under the homonymous brand. Over time, his creative and business independence allowed him to develop original and recognizable designs that are distributed worldwide. Projects coming from the heart and brain, insights emerging from a certain way of being and thinking, where simplicity, lightness, emotion, invention and wonder are the key elements. Groppi's lamps arise from the need to give shape to something that is necessary or significant. His inspirations are art, ready-made, magic, the desire to do things with his hands or simply the desire to play and have fun with light. The light, for Davide Groppi, is a wonderful opportunity to seduce and excite. Davide Groppi has always worked with a close-knit group of collaborators, with whom he shares all ideas. Over his many years of activity, he has developed projects and fitting along with several design companies including: De Padova, Boffi, Paola Lenti and Christofle. There are countless works around the world: houses, shops, museums. Significant activity in the hospitality sector. Some of the most important starred chefs have chosen Davide Groppi's light for their restaurants: Albert Adrià, Massimo Bottura, Massimiliano Alajmo, Moreno Cedroni, Carlo Cracco, Gennaro Esposito, Giancarlo Perbellini, Ciccio Sultano and many others. Davide Groppi's work has been repeatedly recognized through publications and awards. We remember the Edida Award, in 2011, for the Sampei lamp; the Design Plus Award, in 2014, for the Neuro lamp; the double XXIII ADI Compasso d'Oro, in 2014, for the Nulla and Sampei lamps; and the ADI Compasso D'Oro Mention of Honour Award for Tetatet, in 2016. The ADI Compasso d'Oro Award is considered the most historic and prestigious design award in the world. From June 2019, Sampei lights up the "Studio alla Vetrata" of the President of the Republic, as part of the "Quirinale Contemporaneo" project.
