The Ripples bench by Toyo Ito, winner of the Compasso d'Oro 2004, has blossomed into a collection of different furnishing accessories. Among these, we can highlight the Ripples stool, made with a laminated composite of five different solid woods. The shape of the seat, sculpted with industrial technology but entirely finished by hand, feels soft and rich both for the ductility of the wood and for Horm’s passion for craftsmanship. Slide your hand along the surface to feel the seamless transition between walnut, mahogany, cherry, oak and ash.
After graduating from Tokyo University in 1965, in 1971 he founded his own studio Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects. He has received numerous awards, including the Golden Lion of the International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia, the Royal Gold Medal of the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Pritzker Architecture Prize. In the 70s, he tried to erase the conventional meaning of his works through minimalist tactics, to then develop a lightness in an architecture that resembles air and wind.
