The streamlined and organic design of the Freeform Sofa by Isamu Noguchi is reminiscent of large river stones and expresses grace and elegance. This is accentuated by the choice of upholstery fabrics in natural colors.
Vitra - Freeform Sofa
The plasticity of Noguchi’s aesthetic language is expressed in the Freeform Sofa: it is completely different from the projects of the same period, and together with the Ottoman element it forms a sculptural group reminiscent of an enlargement of river pebbles flattened and smoothed by water.
The slender organic forms are fluid and harmonious. Noguchi highlights the lightness of the elements with a thin but comfortable padding and the choice of fabrics in natural colors for the coating.
The Freeform Sofa and Ottoman were produced in a limited edition around 1950. Today the few remaining pieces have reached record prices at auctions. The projects have been realized since 2002 as an authentic re-edition. The sofa is perfect not only for private living spaces, but also for entrances, hotels and stores.
