Cc tapis - Fordite 2 carpet

Fordite is a by-product of the automotive industry: a multicolored layer of glazed car paint that has accumulated over time within the factory, which is then baked and polished to look like a jewel. Inspired by this material, Patricia Urquiola has integrated a similar approach to sustainability into the creation of these rugs. The Himalayan wool, pure silk and aloe used came from the excess material left over from the normal process of producing cc-tapis. The carpets maintain the same layered look of Fordite, recreated with recycled wool and accented with lurex threads.

Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola; She was born in Oviedo, Spain. After studying at the University of Architecture in Madrid, she graduated from the Politecnico di Milano, in 1989 with Achille Castiglioni and in 2001 she opened her studio. Being a designer as much Spanish as Italian has certainly influenced her work, bringing together the rigor of a Milanese education with a whimsical side coming from her origins. She has created several projects and collections for Molteni & C. The Diamond table won the Red Dot Award as the best product of 2005. In the 1990s, she worked on the development of the De Padova product, where he met Vico Magistretti, and developed projects for interiors, showrooms and restaurants. She designs architectures and products for international companies, capable of capturing the attention of the general public. Patricia Urquiola received many awards and recognitions, such as the Wallpaper Design Award, the Elle Decor International Design Award and the Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award.

Born in France. Designed in Milan. Produced in Nepal. Cc-tapis is an Italian company which produces contemporary hand-knotted rugs which are created in Nepal by expert Tibetan artisans. The company was founded by Nelcya Chamszadeh and Fabrizio Cantoni in France who have been producing hand-knotted rugs in Nepal for over 18 years. In 2011 cc-tapis moved to Milan where the company is now based and a team of designers lead by Daniele Lora, art-director and partner, innovate through a new approach to traditional methods. Moreover, a strong respect for the materials and for the culture of this ancient craft is reflected in the company’s eco-friendly approach to every step of production, ranging from the hand spinning of the softest Himalayan wool to the use of purified rainwater for the washing of the final products, making each one of cc-tapis rugs unique. Far from mass production, cc-tapis aims to offer a tailored service to those who understand and enjoy a high-end product, where a three month production time contains a story of ageless culture.
