Opinion Ciatti - Love pouf

Love is an iconic and scenographic padded seat: designed by Joel Escalona, it evokes the works of the masters of pop art Andy Warhol and Keith Haring.

A comfortable heart, an ironic pouf that add warmth wherever it is placed in. It creates an atmosphere in the bedroom, provides informality to an entrance, adds an alternative touch to an austere sitting room, decorates a teenager’s bedroom, but also gives originality to formal environments thanks to its bubbly personality and its reco but evocative shape.

Made in soft polyurethane, it can be coated in various types of fabric and leather.

No more words, Love is all you need. Because when you’re dealing with your heart, too many sentences don’t work.

Joel Escalona

Pragmatic, humorous and poetic, are words that best describe Joel Escalona work. Born in Mexico City in 1986 and graduated in Industrial Design in 2009 from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Azcapotzalco he believes in ideas that engage meaningfully, that push the limits of contemporary design, that have the ability of pulling people into the stories they shelter.

Design is a statement in itself, thus it should always have a strong voice that is technologically defiant, symbolically challenging and of course effective in functionality.

Working with clients in Mexico, USA, Italy, France and Denmark have led him to aim for a multidisciplinary agency able to provide tangible value to each project, while enjoying a full schematic view of the creative process in many levels and different contexts, enriching his studio's values.

His work has been exhibited in the mayor design capitals of the world, such as New York, Paris, Milan, and Mexico City. He was also selected to take part in the ICFF Studio exhibition at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York and was invited to represent South America Young Design at the Maison & Objet’s special exhibition Talents À La Carte in Paris, also featured in the Milan Furniture Fair, Mexico Design Week and the Beijing Design Fair, among several contemporary design exhibitions.

Introduced as one of “the new wave of young designers to watch for in the world” by Wallpaper* magazine, selected as one of the "50 Emergent Talents of the Americas" by Arquine magazine and published in GQ’s extraordinary young people feature, Escalona’s work has appeared in the most prestigious design publications and books worldwide.

In addition to his core design business, Joel Escalona is a founding member of Cooperativa Panorámica a group of Mexican designers exploring new design territories, also he is creative director of the contemporary furniture brand NONO, teaches at CENTRO one of the most important design universities in Mexico City and is a frequent guest lecturer at several design schools and events.

Opinion Ciatti

Opinion Ciatti is a company founded in 1950 in Florence that produces accessories and design furnishing including bookcases, tables and chairs; for the home, work and common spaces. A wide range of concrete and very identifiable objects, able with their presence, their touch, to characterise an atmosphere, personalise an environment. It all begins with an intuition of Rolando Ciatti. As a curious and attentive observer of a world that is changing so fast around him, he understands that a place in the house must be found for that strange, new object – the television - which was about to shake the Italians habit. That’s how Ciatti was founded, in Borgo San Frediano, in Florence Oltrarno, as the first company in Italy to produce TV benches. In 2003  the Ciatti family meets Bruno Rainaldi. Along they found CCR design, a new company focused on the development of home objects and accessories. Under the art direction of Mr Rainaldi, important names in Italian design start creating storage objects, chairs, mirrors, all characterized by a strong and bold personality. In 2004, Original Ptolomeo, the free-standing bookshelf by Bruno Rainaldi, wins the Compasso d’Oro award. Basic but revolutionary, new and with a great impact, as sudden as an intuition; Ptolomeo soon becomes the company’s best-selling item and an icon of contemporary design.
