Thanks to its ergonomic features, however, it remains comfortable even over long periods of sitting, and the unobtrusive design makes it a perfect choice for studios and informal office spaces.

Thanks to its discreet design, the operative chair . 04 is perfect for office environments and for the home studio.
Maarten Van Severen
Maarten Van Severen studied architecture at the Ghent Art Academy. In 1986 he designed his first furniture and the following year he created an independent laboratory in which he began the semi-industrial small-scale production of furniture of his own design. This unified process of design and production has long been a fundamental aspect of his work, dedicated to the examination of types of basic furniture: chair, table, chaise longue, shelves, wardrobe. Van Severen has developed primary solutions for these categories, based on a comprehensive study of issues such as form, material and construction.
In 1990, he began working closely with Rem Koolhaas, also focusing on interior design assignments.
The beginning of Maarten Van Severen’s collaboration with Vitra in 1996 marked a new phase in his career. Until his death in Ghent in 2005, Maarten Van Severen developed a whole series of new projects for Vitra, which were then gradually destined for mass production.
