Gardeco - Dagur graphite Sculpture

Dagur is a ceramic figurine designed by the Icelandic sculptor Örn Porsteinsson as part of a series inspired by Norse mythology, the Travel Pieces. In ancient Norse tales, Dagur is the personification of the day, a bright and beautiful character who brings daylight to Earth.
The rounded biomorphic shape and colours of Dagur are reminiscent of the spectacular Icelandic landscape, making it a charming and aesthetically pleasing piece. The figurine is handmade in the studio of ceramics Cores da Terra in Brazil and is available in five natural colors: coffee, mosgo, marsala, white and graphite. Slight differences in size and colour may occur as a natural result of the artisanal production method.Gardeco is a Belgian brand specialising in the sale of handmade pieces from all over the world.
The company was founded in 1999 and since then it has tried to carry out a single objective: to produce works of art at affordable prices, so that they can be used by a wider audience.

Örn Porsteinsson

Örn Porsteinsson is an Icelandic sculptor based in Reykjavík. He is mainly known for his monumental work which is exhibited in various public spaces in Iceland. For Gardeco, however, Örn has designed a beautiful line of smaller sculptures called Travel Pieces. The artist initially sculpts his designs from disposable materials that are later translated into ceramic and bronze by Gardeco. Porsteinsson’s sculptures have rounded biomorphic shapes reminiscent of the spectacular Icelandic landscape. The artist is also inspired by Icelandic mythology, which is why each of his drawings bears the name of a Nordic god.

The Belgian company was founded in 1999, with a mission to spread new ideas and perspectives through works of art with strong decorative power. All Gardeco sculptures are handcrafted by skilled artisans, thus conveying a strong sense of authenticity. Gardeco could be considered an art publisher that represents artists and craftsmen. It’s where new ideas in art meet high-end decoration. A handcrafted and low technology-based production brings on a variation in all shapes and colours, and thereby a strong sense of authenticity to all of our products. Each mould in which our products are made, is made by hand, as well as the final refining details of each product.
