Gardeco - Disque Friso terra 122

Disque Friso is made of repurposed cardboard pulp blended with soil and water. This wonderful piece of sustainable design is designed and manufactured in Maria da Fé, Brazil, in the studio of the renowned designer Domingos Tótora. The flowing lines represent the rolling hills, waterways and coffee fields  of Maria da Fé. The relief of the lines interacts with light and mimics the way rays of sunlight move over fields and hills, creating a mesmerising light and shadow effect. The earth in the area around the Studio Domingos  Tótora is coloured brown and red, an element of nature which is reflected in the colours of the Placa and Disques Friso as well. Totora’s works are sculpted by hand, which makes each piece unique.

Domingos Tótora

Domingos Tótora is a Brazilian designer from Minas Gerais. A characteristic theme in Tótora’s work is that of sustainability, of exploring ways to produce objects with respect for our environment. Domingos is the founder of the Studio Domingos Tótora, a place where nature meets contemporary design. Located in the rolling green mountains of Maria da Fé, Brazil, it is the ideal setting for the designer to concretise his ideas. The main source material Domingos uses, is recycled cardboard, which serves as a base for art objects, sculptural pieces and even furniture. Totora’s designs breathe sustainability, timelessness and serenity. The neutral ochre and deep earthy red tones in his work represent the colour of the earth in the rural areas of his home country.

The Belgian company was founded in 1999, with a mission to spread new ideas and perspectives through works of art with strong decorative power. All Gardeco sculptures are handcrafted by skilled artisans, thus conveying a strong sense of authenticity. Gardeco could be considered an art publisher that represents artists and craftsmen. It’s where new ideas in art meet high-end decoration. A handcrafted and low technology-based production brings on a variation in all shapes and colours, and thereby a strong sense of authenticity to all of our products. Each mould in which our products are made, is made by hand, as well as the final refining details of each product.
