Ifi is a character from Greek mythology. She was born female, but raised by her mother as a boy to conceal her true gender, as a girl was unwanted by her father. Ifi had to be cautious at all times of fear that anyone would find out about her secret, as if she had to walk on eggshells. This ceramic statuette by the Italian designer Pantaleo Musarò is part of a series of ceramic figurines that reflect different aspects of human nature. The series show us how humans try to hide their vulnerability by behaving in a certain way. Ifi is hand sculpted in Italy, three eggs are covered In 24 carat gold leaf.
Pantaleo Musarò
Pantaleo Musarò (1960) is a multifaceted Italian artist who has developed his own style through direct experience in the field and collaboration with other artists. His constant experimentation with means and materials have made him move from informal and gestural art in the early eighties, to sculpture and installation and even to video and photography. Musarò observes the universality of human character traits. This includes the traits that are appraised by society, such as perseverance, but also those that are frowned upon, like cunningness and pride.
The Belgian company was founded in 1999, with a mission to spread new ideas and perspectives through works of art with strong decorative power. All Gardeco sculptures are handcrafted by skilled artisans, thus conveying a strong sense of authenticity. Gardeco could be considered an art publisher that represents artists and craftsmen.
