Barovier&Toso - Polarities light sculpture

Art and design, poetry and technique. Polarities creates a bridge between constraints and opportunities, outlining a creative dimension that represents and identifies a powerful fusion of intent. Glass intertwines new trajectories and becomes a symbol of intangible entities, such as love and hatred, the past and the future, universally recognized opposites, of which philosophers and poets have written and spoken since ancient times, from East to West. Opposition, interdependence...it is to this eternal dualism that the Polarities collection of light sculptures is inspired, born from the collaboration between Barovier & Toso and Marcel Wanders Studio. The limited and numbered collection consists of six models, each produced in only twenty-one units. Blown and carved by hand, they all have a square stone base, inside which is inserted a luminous component. The light makes the sculptures reveal a double soul, literally generating a transformation and offering a completely new interpretation of the work.

Marcel Wanders

Marcel Wanders was born in Boxtel in 1963, graduated from the Arnhem Art Institute and opened a studio in Amsterdam in 1995. He became famous in 1996 thanks to his iconic Knotted Chair, which integrates high-tech materials and "smart" production techniques.
He is a particularly prolific designer, as well as art director of more than 1,700 projects for private customer and prestigious brands such as Magis, Alessi, Flos and others. Considered by many to be an exception in the design world, the designer's mission is to "create an environment of love, live with passion and make our most exciting dreams come true." In his creations, Marcel often combines innovative materials with techniques by using references to specific historical styles and archetypes, in order to the user can easily get in touch with the product, enjoying it for a long time and, thereby creating a sustainable environment. Marcel's main goal is to bring a human touch back into design, accompanying it into what he defines the new age of design, in which designer, craftsman and user come together. In 2001 Marcel co-founded the design brand Moooi, for which he is also artistic director. Interior projects have become increasingly important in Marcel's work, undertaken because they allow for a true sensory experience for users.
Many of Marcel's designs have been selected for major design collections and exhibitions around the world, such as the Museums of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam.

Barovier&Toso

Barovier & Toso is a Murano glass company. The Barovier family's entrepreneurial activity began in the mid-13th century, making it the sixth oldest family business in the world still in business today. The Fratelli Barovier firm was refounded in 1878 by Benvenuto and Giuseppe Barovier, thus becoming Artisti Barovier. At the beginning of the 20th century the company embarked on a period rich in innovation, introducing many important developments in the field of glass production. In 1926 Ercole Barovier, Benvenuto's son, took over as artistic director of the company, which in 1942, joint with the F.lli Toso glassworks. Ercole invented the new technique of hot coloring without melting the glass. The company, is still a leader in the production of original Murano glass, and has become synonymous with quality all over the world.
