Louis Poulsen - PH 4½-3½  glass floor lamp

Designed in 1928, it is one of the many innovative projects undertaken by Poul Henningsen in 1926 to develop his world-famous three-screen system. Its three-screen design, based on the Lito, or logarithmic spiral, was intended to optimize the use of the light source. The screens are in opal glass with three layers; glossy on the upper surface and sandblasted and satin on the lower surface, to create a soft and uniform light distribution.

Poul Henningsen

Poul Henningsen was born in Copenhagen and is the son of the famous Danish author Agnes Henningsen. Educated at the Technical School in Frederiksberg, Denmark from 1911 to 1914, and later at the Technical College in Copenhagen from 1914 to 1917, he began the practice of traditional functional architecture, but over the years his professional interests were mainly directed toward lighting, the field that brought him most notoriety.
