The limited edition bronze sculpture Pull up by Freddy De Waele shows a young child playing, climbing up on a high structure. Once the top is reached, he stops and sits for a while to admire the scenery. Pull up can be considered a representation of different stages of childhood into young adulthood, of a journey that can be a struggle, but that is necessary for personal growth. Pull up is featured in roughly textured bronze and natural oak. There’s a sunny playfulness to this set of figurines, introducing an element of joy to any home. Freddy De Waele
Before pursuing a career in sculpture, Freddy De Waele was a pastry and chocolate arts teacher at the Hotel Management School Ter Groene Poorte in Bruges, Belgium. In order to optimise his chocolate designs, De Waele studied sculpture and drawing for nine years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bruges. Over the years, Freddy became aware that sculpting with chocolate has its limits. He started to look for a new, more versatile medium, which is when the artist started to explore working with bronze. There is a sunny playfulness to Freddy De Waele’s designs that show the pleasures of everyday life.
The Belgian company was founded in 1999, with a mission to spread new ideas and perspectives through works of art with strong decorative power. All Gardeco sculptures are handcrafted by skilled artisans, thus conveying a strong sense of authenticity. Gardeco could be considered an art publisher that represents artists and craftsmen. It’s where new ideas in art meet high-end decoration. A handcrafted and low technology-based production brings on a variation in all shapes and colours, and thereby a strong sense of authenticity to all of our products. Each mould in which our products are made, is made by hand, as well as the final refining details of each product.
