His distinctive style, which includes the incorporation of craftsmanship and collaboration with artisans, began in 2000, when the Italian design brand Cappellini put its models into production and in 2003 Missoni commissioned him for the Luxe maison. The patchwork vases, which he designed, were the first handmade objects produced in his studio. In 2005, Burks went to South Africa to collaborate with international craftsmen. Burks started his own design business in 2007 after meeting Willard Musarurwa, a street vendor who produces wire souvenirs for tourists. After meeting at a local design institute in Cape Town, they launched together the outdoor furniture tatu wire focused on furniture designed in craft style and crafts.
