Moooi - Liberty Lounger

The sculptor Joep van Lieshout has set himself a goal: to create a chair a day for a month. He called the project Prototypes as part of his utopian project New Tribal Labyrinth. This futuristic vision focuses on the reinvention of the industrial revolution by recreating an ideal world based on the lost relationship between individuals and raw materials.

Atelier Van Lieshout is the studio founded by the sculptor, painter and visionary Joep van Lieshout. After graduating from the Rotterdam Art Academy, Van Lieshout quickly became famous with projects that travelled between the world of easy-clean design and the non-functional area of art: sculptures and installations, buildings and furniture, utopias and dystopias. In 1995 van Lieshout founded his own studio, Atelier Van Lieshout; since then he has been working under the name of the studio to undermine the myth of the artistic genius. Over the last two decades, Atelier Van Lieshout has produced a veritable cornucopia of works straddling art, design and architecture: sculptures and installations, buildings and furniture, utopias and dystopias. What these works have in common are a series of recurring themes, motivations and obsessions: systems, power, autarchy, life, sex, death. The human individual faced with a greater whole.
