Cappellini - 01 Chair lacquared base
Created as a tribute to the 1980’s, the decade during which the original design was made and when Shiro Kuramata began his fertile collaboration with Cappellini, sedia 01 Chair features an ultralight volume and is characterized by the sinuous interweaving of lines and arches.
The structure of 01 Chair is made of iron tube with a polished chrome or matte varnished finish, in black. The seat cover is fixed and comes in the leathers offered in the collection
Shiro Kuramata
Born in Tokyo in 1934, Kuramata grew up during World War II and the American occupation of Japan. In 1953, he graduated from Tokyo polytechnic, where he studied wood art and then worked for a local furniture company, Teikokukizai. Shortly afterwards, he enrolled at the Kuwasawa Design School in Tokyo. A design icon, he was the Japanese designer who best epitomized the spirit of the era in which he lived, through his highly significant products and creations.
In 1965, he founded the Kuramata Design Office in Tokyo, where he remained until the year of his death, in 1991, working on numerous projects that entered the product and Design hall of fame. Kuramata first encountered Italian design through Memphis, then in 1987, with Cappellini, for whom he created the Progetti Compiuti chest of drawers series. All of the pieces Kuramata made for the company were incredibly well-received, such as the Steel Pipe Drink Trolly, the Sofa With Arms, the Ko-Ko coffe table, the Bookshelf and the Revolving Cabinet chest of drawers.
Cappellini is an Italian design company, founded in Carugo in 1946 by Enrico Cappellini. Synonymous with originality, contemporaneity and experimentation, the brand produces quality furnishing elements for every type of space, residential and working. Born as an artisan company, the collections are characterized by simplicity and personality.
Designed by the great names of international design, often discovered by the talent scout and corporate designer Giulio Cappellini.

The latter are recognized and exhibited in the most important museums in the world such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the MoMA in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
