Zanotta - April folding chair

One of the great skills of Aurelio Zanotta was to be accompanied by the most significant designers of Italian design in building a catalog of proposals consistent with its own, personal vision, corresponding to a precise idea of objects, intelligent and functional, and a philosophy all Zanotta.

So many designers have lent sensitivity and taste to transform some types that Aurelio himself wanted, strongly, revisit. Like Gae Aulenti, who, starting from an evergreen classic like the "director’s armchair", normally proposed by the market in a poor version, arrives with April to an object of obvious perfection.

Gae Aulenti

Born in Palazzolo della Stella (Udine) in 1927, she trained in Milan in the group of young people linked to Ernesto Rogers; with him she collaborated in the editorial staff of the magazine Casabella from 1955 to 1965, taking care of its graphics and layout.

He graduated in architecture in 1959 and participated in the '50s/'60s in the "neo-liberty" movement, whose original components are found in several of his projects; From 1960 to 1962 he taught with Samona in the Faculty of Architecture in Venice and from 1964 to 1967 with Ernesto Rogers in the Faculty of Architecture in Milan. It acquires international fame with the creation of interior architecture, installations and exhibitions for the main Italian industries, residential and school buildings, as well as the design of furniture elements and lighting systems.

In 1972 he participated in the exhibition "Italy: The New Domestic Landscape" at m.o.m.a. in New York. Gae Aulenti joins the critical activity of the Association for Industrial Design, of which she was vice president. From 1995 to 1996 he was President of the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. He has been collaborating with Zanotta since 1963. Disappeared in 2012.
