The visual expression of the Ant chair is delicate and artistic, just like the curves of a musical instrument. The three-legged ant is inspired by simple agricultural stools created to stand firmly on the uneven floors of Danish farms.

The visual expression of the Ant chair is delicate and skillful, just like the curves of a musical instrument. Designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1952, the chair consists of nine layers of pressure-molded veneer. Its elegant shape hides its remarkable strength and comfort.
The three-legged ant is inspired by simple farm stools created to stand firmly on uneven floors on Danish farms. The chair beautifully exemplifies Jacobsen’s understanding of the intrinsic strength of raw materials. Consisting of only two parts: the seat and back combined in pressed plywood and a tubular steel structure.
Arne Jacobsen
It is said that as a child growing up in Copenhagen, Arne Jacobsen painted over the Victorian wallpaper in his bedroom. But young Arne did not cover his walls with typical childish drawings or paint the ornate wallpaper boyish blue. Instead, he decided to paint his room entirely white. His decision may seem commonplace today, but in the early twentieth century white walls were not yet in fashion. From the very beginning, Arne Jacobsen was ahead of his time.
