Vitra Panton Junior Longho Design Palermo 0

Verner Panton was one of the most influential figures in the development of design in the 1960s and 1970s. Along with his experimental approach to shapes and colors, he was fascinated by the potential of plastic, a new material at the time. His goal was to create a comfortable chair, made in one piece, that could be used anywhere. After searching for a producer for several years, Panton came into contact with Vitra in 1963. Together they developed the Panton Chair, first presented in 1967.
The pre-series production of the Panton Chair began in 1967. It was welcomed as a sensation and received numerous awards. One of the first models is now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Today the Panton Chair is considered a classic of modern furniture design. The original version of the chair in rigid polyurethane foam with a glossy lacquered finish is marketed under the name Panton Chair Classic.

Verner Panton

Verner Panton’s passion for vibrant colors and geometric patterns has been manifested in a wide range of textile designs. Fusing the elements of a room into a general work of art (Gesamtkunstwerk). Panton’s internal installations have achieved legendary status. The most famous examples are the "Visiona" naval installations for the Cologne furniture fair (1968 and 1970), the Spiegel publishing house in Hamburg (1969) and the Varna restaurant in Aarhus (1970). The goal of the designer Verner Panton was to create a chair that gave the idea of growing from the floor, or a chair transformed into something "more natural and organic, which never has four legs". From this, the Panton chair takes up what is the characteristic of Art Nouveau, that is, the fact of being inspired directly by nature. Thanks to its shape, in fact, the Panton chair has been designed to follow the curves of the human body.
