Fritz Hansen – Swan Lounge chair

The beautiful Swan chair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the lobby and lounge areas of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The design contains no straight lines, making it look organic and soft despite its simplicity and strong architectural appeal.

The base of the spokes is in aluminum, mounted on a pedestal in polished satin steel. The shell is made of synthetic material, padded with cold-cured foam.

Arne Jacobsen’s first period of activity took place at home, during which he won first prize at the Akademisk Arkitektforeningen competition for a «house of the future» designed with F. Lassen (1929). Later he moved to Sweden, where he mainly dealt with upholstery and textiles.
