Magis - Proust armchair black

Iconic Armchair designed by the great Design Alessandro Mendini for Magis in 2011, entirely in polyethylene.

Alessandro Mendini

Alessandro Mendini; Milanese architect and designer, he mainly deals with neo-modern and contemporary design. His research focuses on the design of furniture, environments, architecture and installations. The characteristic of his projects has as a trait d'union an eccentric taste for the combination of contrasting elements by reworking apparently antithetical cues and ideas. In collaboration with Alessi, Philips, Swarovski and Swatch, he has designed iconic pieces that have enriched the world design scene. In addition to this, for the Cappellini catalog, Mendini created the Proust armchair and its variant with renewed upholstery, Proust Geometrica. In 1979 and 1981 he won the Compasso d'Oro for design, he also received the honor of the Architectural League of New York and the Laurea Honoris Causa at the Milan Polytechnic and at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan, in France.

Magis

A story of ideas, creativity and experimentation. Since 1976. This is the know-how that Magis brings to the world of design.
Established in Northern Italy as a family business, thanks to the ingenuity of visionary Eugenio Perazza it has become a major design laboratory for home, outdoor, office and contract and a global player in design field. Magis is a Latin word meaning “more“. And this is precisely the origin of the propulsive drive for experimentation. To be and do more. Magis has always believed in young and emerging talents, and over the years, the company has grown and experimented alongside many of them, now famous on the international scene. Jasper Morrison, Konstantin Grcic, Philippe Starck, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and Jerszy Seymour are just some of the designers who are part of the Magis family. An eclectic, versatile design that take up homes, public spaces and stands out in the permanent exhibitions of more than 35 museums around the world, and has won close to a hundred of the most prestigious awards including five Compasso d’Oro awards, the oldest and most authoritative worldwide design award.
