Vittorio Prato

Vittorio Prato was born in Brianza, Italy, on April 26, 1946, a few kilometers from Milan, after a happy childhood spent in contact with nature with many older siblings his masters in everything, he completed his studies in 1965 as Master of Art. Since 1965 he has been active as an interior designer working as a design manager for many brands and with the most important Italian designers. In 1968 he began his experience as Project Manager at "Centro Cesare Cassina," the creative and design source of Cassina products. Later, from 1972, he worked at B&B Italia as head of R&D. With the latter he was engaged in the study and research of new technologies, new materials, design and industrial production. We also remember collaborations with some of the most important Italian designers, such as Gio Ponti, Achille Castiglioni, Afra and Tobia Scarpa, Mario Bellini, Vico Magistretti, Gaetano Pesce, Richard Sapper, Gianfranco Frattini, Mario Marenco, Antonio Citterio, Paolo Nava, Paolo Piva, and Toshiyuki Kit. Since 1976 he has been freelancing as a consultant and designer. In 1979 he was invited to participate in the Milan Triennale with an urban furniture project for the exhibition "Urban Real Urban Virtual." From 1977 to 1987 he was Product Consultant for Flou, and from 1981 to 1991 he was also a consultant for Interflex. From 1987 to 2009 he is a consultant for Meritalia. In 1984 the ADI (Industrial Design Association) awarded his product "Chassis," the innovative bed base designed for Interflex, a mention in the XIII Compasso d'Oro event. In Italy he has collaborated with and designed for IDEA, Beta Utensili, Maisa, Former, Flou, Interflex, Hi&Ro, Minottiitalia, Lema-Sorgente dei Mobili, Molteni, Tisettanta, Besana Mobili, Coopsette, Vaghi, Diwar, Vibieffe, Meritalia, Barel, Valdichienti, Poliform, BK Italia, Noctis... and in Japan for Kosuga and Koizumi. Since 2009 he has been a consultant and designer for BK Italia. In addition to some achievements in architecture, there are numerous furniture and installation projects carried out in more than 30 years of professional activity.
